Buteyko Breathwork Support

Stress and anxiety keep your nervous system locked in a constant state of fight-or-flight, and your breathing reflects that. Shallow, fast, upper-chest breathing and habitual mouth breathing actually reinforce anxiety and panic, creating a cycle that's hard to break alone.

Research shows that dysfunctional breathing affects up to 80% of people with anxiety, yet it's rarely addressed.

The Buteyko Method works differently. Rather than simply teaching you to "breathe deeply," it helps you slow down your breath, breathe more gently, and build tolerance to carbon dioxide, retraining your body and brain to respond more calmly to stress and stimulating the vagus nerve. This activates your parasympathetic nervous system, your body's natural "rest and digest" response, reducing cortisol levels and easing the physical symptoms of anxiety naturally.

Through a personalised breathwork programme using Buteyko, we work together to:

  • Retrain dysfunctional breathing patterns driving stress and anxiety

  • Reduce hyperventilation and the urge to sigh (a key anxiety trigger)

  • Activate your body's natural relaxation response

  • Build long-term nervous system resilience

  • Manage and prevent panic attacks naturally

  • Improve focus, mental clarity and emotional regulation

Scientific studies show that breath retraining like the Buteyko Method can be as effective as psychological therapies such as CBT for reducing anxiety.

Most clients begin to notice a real shift within six to eight sessions, and leave every session with practical breathing techniques for stress and anxiety they can use the moment pressure strikes.

FAQ's

Can breathwork really help with anxiety and stress?

Yes, and the science backs it up. Dysfunctional breathing patterns, such as shallow chest breathing, mouth breathing and habitual sighing, are present in the vast majority of people with anxiety. The Buteyko Method works by retraining these patterns at a fundamental level, calming the nervous system, reducing cortisol levels and activating the body's natural relaxation response. Many clients notice a real difference within just a few sessions, and leave with practical breathing techniques they can use anywhere, any time stress strikes.

How many breathwork sessions will I need to reduce my anxiety?

Everyone is different, but most clients begin to notice a meaningful shift within six to eight sessions. From your very first session, you will leave with practical techniques you can use immediately to manage stress and calm anxiety in the moment. Over time, these breathing exercises become second nature — giving you a natural, drug-free tool for managing anxiety long term.

What is the difference between Buteyko breathwork and other breathing techniques for anxiety?

Most breathing techniques focus on taking bigger, deeper breaths. The Buteyko Method works differently, it teaches you to breathe less, more gently and always through the nose. This restores healthy carbon dioxide levels in the blood, which is key to calming the nervous system and reducing anxiety. Combined with Pranayama and Conscious Connected Breathing, Diane's sessions offer a truly holistic approach to stress and anxiety relief that goes beyond temporary relaxation.

Is breathwork a natural alternative to medication for stress and anxiety?

Buteyko breathwork is a clinically recognised, drug-free approach to managing stress and anxiety, and research has shown it can be as effective as therapies such as CBT for some people. It works alongside, not instead of, any existing medical treatment or support you may have. If you are looking for a natural way to reduce anxiety, improve your mental wellbeing and feel more in control of your stress response, breathwork could be a powerful addition to your toolkit. Always consult your GP if you have concerns about your mental health.

I was bought a voucher for Diane’s session as a gift. I was sceptical at first but as soon as I met her I felt comfortable and was impressed with the amount of knowledge she had on the subject and the techniques involved. After 6 sessions I’m sleeping better, breathing better and have more energy! I am now using her teachings during gym workouts to improve my performance and have already started to get great results. I cannot recommend these sessions enough, especially if you struggle with sleep or anxiety issues as I did. Thanks Diane
